On Friday 22nd January 2016, 10 Senior ODs, in the company of the ODU President, Raymond Ackerman (S, 1948) met for lunch at the venerable Carlton Club in London. Although he couldn't join us, the Club was made available to the ODs through Anthony Record, MBE (S, 1956) to whom go our grateful thanks.
After a warm-up drink in the Club's splendid Drawing Room, we moved onto the Disraeli Room for a very cosy fireside lunch at which Raymond spoke about South Africa and Bishops, framing his comments with a quote from George Bush, Snr, "A thousand points of light". The strength and growth of a nation - or any organisation for that matter - comes from the cumulative effect of thousands of ordinary people working as a force for good, rather than a reliance on a government to deliver. And, said Raymond, Bishops produces boys who make up those points of light.
At the lunch were: Raymond Ackerman , Simon Arnold (F, 1951), Tim Shaw (S, 1952), Jeremy Ouvry (F, 1953), Miles Maskell (O, 1953), Mike Taylor (G, 1959), John Parker-Wood (G, 1960), Peter Arthur (W, 1965), Denis Christie (F, 1971) and Nicky Bicket (F, 1973).
