Senior OD Lunch

Continuing the practice of ODs who lunch, 26 of us gathered at the Carlton Club for a delicious meal and an engaging and thought-provoking talk from Alec Hogg. Alec who now lives in London from where he runs Bizznews has just returned from a tour of Davos (his fourteenth visit) and South Africa. He spoke of the American world view, the impact of Donald Trump and the alarmingly gung-ho attitude of his cadre of executive appointments and political advisors. Not too dissimilar, Alec pointed out, to the situation in which South Africa finds itself with its own President.

But there is hope for both, mainly in the checks-and-balances both leaders are governed by and with the ANC elections looming large, there is a very real possibility that positive change might be affected as voters react against the excesses of the current regime.

Alec Hogg

Alex is a formidable and penetrating journalist who communicates easily, succinctly and convincingly. With hindsight, we could have been more generous with the time allotted to him. Hopefully we can persuade him to return.

A list of guests with houses and years is posted at the end of this blog.
